Aspen Eyes

Aspens show every scrape and scar from the elements and animals around them, the claw marks of bear cubs practice their climbing skills, or the marks of a territorial bear or a busy porcupine. Stories from Native Americans tell of bird flying into the aspen tree when they a pass over. These portals in the shape of a flying bird often look like eyes. The aspens are like pictographs and archives of the happenings in the forest. It is a fasinating read.

I did this series at the edge of the forest. It is becoming more apparent to me that "plein air creations" have more spirit, the elements often make an imprint on the pieces. I am like a cautious Steller Jay when I am out there, the ASPENS are watching and so am I.
